Overview
Mohs surgery, sometimes called Mohs micrographic surgery, is used to remove all cancerous cells. While this can be used to treat most skin cancers, it is considered the most effective treatment for basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma.

Fellowship-trained vs. Non-Fellowship Trained Mohs Surgeons
Only fellowship-trained ACMS members have received rigorous, hands-on direction and education from experienced practitioners of Mohs surgery.
- 1-2 years additional training post-residency
- Minimum 650 cases during training
- Exposure to rare tumor pathology, difficult tumor locations, and complex wound reconstruction
- Those in the training programs must pass rigorous application and review process

How it Works
Mohs surgery is conducted in stages. First, a thin layer of tissue is removed using a scalpel and then examined under a microscope. If the Doctor finds any remaining cancer cells you will be called back to remove another layer. The process is repeated until all the cancer is removed.
