What is Skin Cancer?
Skin cancer develops when skin cells grow abnormally, often due to excessive sun exposure. It usually appears on sun-exposed areas like the face, neck, scalp, and arms, but it can also form in hidden places. While it’s the most common cancer in the U.S., early detection and the right skin cancer treatment can make it highly treatable.
At Waccamaw Dermatology, our experts evaluate, diagnose, and treat all forms of skin cancer with precision and compassion. Whether you need a simple biopsy or advanced surgery, we’re here to guide your care every step of the way.
Types of Skin Cancer
Our dermatologists treat all major forms of skin cancer. Understanding the type of skin cancer you have helps determine the most effective skin cancer treatment plan for you.
Basal Cell Carcinoma
The most common type of skin cancer. It grows slowly and rarely spreads but should be treated early to prevent tissue damage.
Squamous Cell Carcinoma
The second most common type of skin cancer. It may grow more aggressively and has a higher chance of spreading than basal cell carcinoma.
Melanoma
A more dangerous but less common form of skin cancer. Early detection is critical—melanoma can spread quickly if untreated.
Skin Cancer Treatment Options
We offer both surgical and non-surgical skin cancer removal options based on your diagnosis, location of the cancer, and overall health.
Mohs Surgery
The most precise method for removing basal and squamous cell carcinomas, with a cure rate up to 99%.
Image-Guided Superficial Radiation Therapy
A non-invasive therapy that uses targeted radiation. Ideal for patients who prefer a non-surgical approach or are not surgical candidates.
How Do You Check For Skin Cancer?
