Michael Y. Xiong, M.D., FAAD, AACMS

Waccamaw Dermatology is excited to announce the arrival of Dr. Michael Y. Xiong, MD. He is a board-certified dermatologist and fellowship-trained Mohs and reconstructive surgeon who specializes in the treatment and removal of complex skin cancers. He believes that every patient is unique and that a treatment plan should be individually tailored to the specific needs of each patient.
Dr. Xiong grew up in Boston, Massachusetts and attended Boston University where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. He then attended medical school at Brown University in Rhode Island where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society, followed by a medical internship at Christiana Care Hospital in Delaware, and a dermatology residency at Stony Brook University Hospital in New York.
After residency, Dr. Xiong relocated to Los Angeles, California to complete a prestigious ACGME-accredited fellowship in Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology at Bennett Surgery Center, UCLA, and USC, under the tutelage of world-renowned Mohs surgeon Dr. Richard G. Bennett. While there, Dr. Xiong received rigorous surgical training in the treatment of complex skin cancers and the reconstruction of large wounds.
Dr. Xiong has done extensive research in dermatology and dermatologic surgery with a focus on studying risk factors for the development of skin cancers, including working as a research fellow at the NIH and at Brown University. He has published dozens of scientific articles in medical journals, as well as authored several textbook chapters.
In his spare time, Dr. Xiong enjoys hiking, photography, traveling, and spending time with his family.
