Non-Surgical SRT Treatment Now at Waccamaw Dermatology

Superficial Radiation Therapy (SRT) is an advanced modernized form of radiation therapy. Computers used to take up an entire room, and now smartphones that fit in your hand have more computing power than the computer used for Apollo missions. That same type of transformation has happened in radiation therapy. SRT provides a non-surgical alternative for non-melanoma skin cancer. Waccamaw Dermatology providers deliver highly precise, ultrasound guided radiation with a very sophisticated in-office device.

The founding member of Waccamaw Dermatology, Dr. Bibb, has a longstanding history in radiation therapy. His team developed the ubiquitous radiation safety tags used throughout the world today. Radiation has been used to treat skin cancer for many decades. Skin cancer was in fact the original type of cancer treated with radiation.

Radiation used to be the treatment last resort, leaving white hard scars. Tremendous improvements in calibration, technology, and dosing have occurred in the past few decades. Now, radiation treatment is conducted without ever leaving a scar.

“We’ve seen a tremendous advance in radiation technology during my career. When I started in the 80’s, treatment was based on best guesses and often used at higher doses with significant scaring. The radiation therapy of today is lightyears ahead of its predecessors, and we can very accurately target tumors with high resolution image guided systems,” says Bibb.

Waccamaw Dermatology is committed to workplace safety and the safety of their employees and patients.

Specific to Covid-19, Waccamaw Dermatology follows federal, state and county guidelines in conjunction with the Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommended protocol.
